I did the metagenics program just before Christmas and found it was great.  I will be doing another 10 days starting January 2nd (post holiday binges):)  I will be adding a fiber supplement to it this time to step it up a notch.  Another one to consider is from Designs for Health.  I think it is probably more complete, but uses more products and lasts 21 to 28 days.  I’m starting people on the metagenics program because I think it is easier initially but will try the other upcoming this year. http://catalogue.designsforhealth.ca/Library-CA/Detoxification-Support-Materials-CA

I’m about to start the cleanse next Monday and i’m a bit nervous about it. It was recommended by my MD for weight loss.

My naturopath has me on an anti-candida diet and supplement regimen, but some of it goes against what many candida experts say. For instance, she says I can eat starchy veggies, like potatoes and carrots. She also says grains and other lectins are okay, too. Not to mention soy. Before, even seeing her, I was following (not to the T, but pretty closely) the AIP protocol. Being off of grains, corn, legumes, etc seemed to help a bit. I guess introducing grains back in really solidified that my body isn’t ready for them. I think I might get a similar reaction from sweet potatoes, sadly. I stopped eating grains a few days into her protocol since they were causing a lot of GI pain. Seems like I’ll have to stop sweet potatoes, as well.

I haven’t been officially testes for candida, but it’s obvious I have an overgrowth, plus leaky gut. I’m gonna best tested for SIBO soon. Thankfully, my insurance covers a basic breathe test.

My ND has me on Candidastat, GI Revive, and Thera-complete probiotics. I just started taking them today and I’m already feeling what I’m hoping to be die-off. You’re kind of lucky that you only deal with sinus issues and rashes during die-off. I’ve dealt with a bad GI tract my whole life, so die-off tends to be pretty harsh on me. I’ve done my own detoxing over the past 6 months, so I know what to expect to an extent, but I hate experiencing it. The nausea, loose stools, GI pain, and fatigue can be debilitating, even though I’m, sadly, used to it. I wish I could devote a few days of rest to this process, but I work through Sunday, so I don’t have that luxury. I’m hoping the symptoms don’t persist too long.

There’s WAY too much speculation and opinions based around vegan vs paleo when it comes to health and treating illnesses. Last year, before and after my second colonoscopy (which had less than stellar results), I tried so many diets: vegan, vegetarian, pescatarian, raw, etc. It was a nightmare. Nothing seems to truly fit, since one diet usually lacked key nutrients that others provided. I did way too much research on both, which drove me nuts, since both sides of the spectrum have a lot of data, research, and testing to back up their claims on what’s the “optimal” diet/lifestyle. I went into a deep depression/anxiety driven state (which is usually how I am, anyway, but to a larger degree), cuz I didn’t know who to believe and I wasn’t sure if I was healing or damaging my system with these different diets.

The AIP seems to be the only thing that doesn’t cause me the most horrid of symptoms. So I’m still gonna follow that, along with a modified version of my NP’s protocol. The supplements and her visits are expensive, so I wanna get my money’s worth. I really hope it helps.

After all my research, what I’ve learned is that one diet doesn’t fit all. Some people thrive on being vegan, while others become ill on it. There are many factors that people need to consider when choosing a lifelong diet, including DNA and, to some degree, blood type. There are very expensive tests one can take to discover exactly what diet is right for each individual. If I become rich in the future, I may take them.

Also, one must heal the mind/spirit along with physical symptoms. Doing one without the other is pointless.

Sorry about my wall of text. Just thought I’d give my two cents on the matter. I’m hoping to one day become a holistic practitioner/therapist so that I can help people with more than their physical symptoms.

At 1st I was scared and worried I would not be able to accomplish this. My nutritionist recommended it for my Hashimoto’s. I am in day 4 today and feeling great and excited to continue. I have felt the sluggish weird symptoms, but I imagined it would come with the combo. This diet is something I would be willing to follow for life. Seems like my body is taking it well. Thank you for sharing. Now I have an idea of what to expect the next few days.

Savanna D Leigh says:

What Metagenics cleanse did you use? I have found a few bottles but wasn’t sure what to get and the link you posted no longer works. Thank you in advanced!

darkeyes909 says:

The “blue bottle” now no longer lists the ingredients. Here is California.
